The Vikings (1-4) head into New York to take on fellow strugglers the Giants (0-6) in the last game of week 7.
The big talking point will be who Leslie Frazier picks as his starting QB. It is likely that Josh Freeman will get his first start in his new home. Adrian Peterson is the most likely to run the football , he is the only Viking to have carried for over 100 yards this season. Should he start Freeman will look to WR Jerome Simpson who has 23 receptions for 372 yards. WR Greg Jennings and TE Kyle Rudolph will also get an opportunity to get at a porous Giants defense. Peterson is listed as probable (hamstring). The resent signing of Peyton Hillis is seen as desperate measures by some.
Chad Greenway, Erin Henderson and Harrison Smith each have 2 interceptions this season. DE Jared Allen has 3.5 sacks but is listed as probable (ankle). The Vikings have problems on the defense, they gave given up more than 30 points in all but one game which was the only win in London against the Steelers.
Things are no better in the blue side of New York. QB Eli Manning has had his fair share of picks this season (15). His completion record is just 53.7%, Manning has also been sacked 16 times. The Giants don't boast a great running game, RB David Wilson is out (neck) and RB Brandon Jacobs is listed as questionable (hamstring). WR's Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks are the most likely outlets for the G-Men, for that to happen they will have to look after the football much better.
Defensive co-ordinator Perry Fewell will be urging his d-line to go out and make some plays, 5 sacks and 4 picks are reflective of a struggling football team. Ryan Munday leads with 43 combined tackles and 1 interception.
This is a match up between two struggling franchises. Both head coaches will be desperate for a win tonight and it may boil down to who can make the most of good situations that arise on the field. This is an opportunity for either franchise to rescue some dignity tonight.
Key Men
Minnesota - Adrian Peterson, the NFL MVP has an opportunity to get some yards under his belt tonight.
New York Giants - Victor Cruz, the most likely threat for the G-Men must stay on the same page as Eli Manning.
