It's Rob Ryan (Saints defensive co-ordinator) versus twin brother Rex Ryan (Jets head coach). Actually if you asked them both they would say it's New Orleans (6-1) versus New York Jets (4-4).
Most franchises would like the luxury of having an elite quarterback like Drew Brees or the explosive qualities of tight end Jimmy Graham. Sean Payton is the head coach to boast having them both. Brees is on his way to 2,500 passing yards for the season. He was in sensational form against the Bills in week 8, throwing for 332 yards and five touchdowns. Graham caught for two touchdowns in week 8. The Saints are predominantly a passing team. RB Pierre Thomas is the only player on the Saints roster with over 200 yards rushing (253).
If fit, DE Cameron Jordan will have his sights set on Geno Smith, he has six sacks this season and two fumble recoveries. Jordan is on of eight injury questions for week 9, he is listed as questionable (ankle).
The Jets can not put a back to back run of wins together. Week 8 was a disaster for Rex Ryan's men as they were routed 49-9 by the Bengals. Gino Smith has thrown for 13 picks this season and will have to up his game against the NFC Championship contenders. Smith has been slowly eating up the yards on the ground, rushing an average of 19.2 YPG. Non of the Jets offense has managed three touchdowns this season.
The defense is where the Jets strengths lie. 25 sacks lead by Muhammad Wilkerson with seven and three picks are the numbers and last week's defeat was the first time that the defensive line had given up more than 28 points in a game this season. The Jets injury report is lengthy. WR Santonio Holmes will not feature (hamstring).
Both head coaches may have to shuffle that pack as they deal with mid season injuries. It's the sixth best overall offense (New Orlaeans) against the sixth best overall defense in what should be a good game of football.
Key Men
New Orleans - Drew Brees, he is one the few elite quarterbacks in the NFL, he has what it takes to call plays and unlock the Jets defense.
New York Jets - Bilal Powell, the running back may be the prefered outlet for the Jets if Smith can't work the pass.
