Could this be the week that the Vikings (1-7) get their second win of the season when they entertain Washington (3-5) tonight?
The Redskins where let off the hook last week at home to San Diego, but ask around in the locker room and they will tell you a win is a win. A win loss, win loss sequence has been the pattern since week 4 and that may give Leslie Frazier's Vikings a psychological boost.
The big question is whether or not head coach Mike Shanahan starts with RGIII or Kirk Cousins behind centre. Pierre Garcon had a good game in week 9 with seven receptions for $1.72. Running back Alfred Morris has also been in fine for of late. Another 121 yard rushing game and a touchdown will be a welcome sight for the Redskins tonight. The offense currently ranked at 5th overall has a 45% third down conversion rate and will go up against a defensive line with a 49% conversion rate.
It will be interesting to see how linebacker Ryan Kerrigan fares against the Minnesota starting quarterback, he will be looking to add to his 6.5 sacks for the season. Cornerback DeAngleo Hall will be key for the secondary, he has a third (3) of all Washington's interceptions.
Minnesota have had problems all season noticeably on the offense. Current NFL MVP Adrian Peterson had a big game last week. Washington have not been great against the rush and Peterson is due a another big game to try and help Minnesota salvage some pride. Tight end Kyle Rudolph is out (foot). It may be up to wide receivers Greg Jennings and Jerome Simpson to support Peterson. A one dimensional game will be counter productive against a suspect defense.
The Vikings defense need to try and play a high pressure game. An interception or key sack could be the difference in what could be a close game. Linbacker Chad Greenaway is listed as probable (wrist).
The NFC north is looking out of reach for the Vikings but their fans will be wanting to see as many wins as possible between now and the end of the season. For Washington they know that the NFC East is wide open, a win here will give them some momentum going to into week 11 against an Eagles team that can't buy a win at home.
Key Men
Washington - Pierre Garcon, another big game from him tonight could be on the cards as the Redskins will look to unsettle the Minnesota secondary.
Minnesota - Adrian Peterson, if anyone can get it done it is AP. He has had a difficult time of late and only a fool would bet against him producing a blow out game.
