Channel 4 Monday 7th October 1:30 am.
Third live game on UK TV today features the Texans (2-2) who to travel to the 49ers (2-2). Both franchises have come under their own portions of criticism in recent weeks.
Texans head coach Gary Kubiak will be looking to make sure his side are mentally ready as the Texans fight to stay in contention of the AFC South. Matt Schaub threw for a pick six last weekend against the Seahawks. Schaub and his teammates will want to show that they have a comeback in their locker going into week 5. The Texans QB has thrown for 1193 for 8 TD's and 6 interceptions this season. WR Andre Johnson is listed as questionable as Texans fans sweat on his fitness. Rookie WR DeAndre Hopkins has 270 yards receiving with 1 TD averaging 13.5 yards a game. TE's Owen Daniels and Garrett Graham both have 3 TD's each this season. RB Arian Foster has carried the ball 292 yards averaging 73 yards a game. Daniels and Foster are both listed as probable.
It is no secret that the Texans have a tough defence which includes the leadership of LB Brian Cushing (listed probable (knee)) and DE JJ Watt. Cushing has 1.5 sacks and interception and a TD this season. For those not familiar with this team, look out for the tough tackling #56. DE JJ Watt is another well respect football player, Watt has 3.5 sacks this season. OLB Whitney Merclius also has 3.5 sacks this season. Defensive coordinator Joe Marciano will be looking Watt and Merclius to add to their sacks.
Jim Harbaugh's 49ers beat the Rams 35-11 in week 4. Despite a good start in week 1 QB Colin Kaepernick came under some criticism for his performances in week 2 and 3, last week he threw for 167 yards and 2 TD's (5 this season). The pocket will have to work hard against JJ Watt, Brian Cushing and co as the 49ers QB has been sacked 10 times this season. Kaepernick has some very capable weapons in RB Frank Gore and WR Anquan Boldin. Both are explosive and have the ability and experience to make important plays at crucial times of the game. RB Kendal Hunter as also chipped in this season with 2 TD's. WR Kyle Williams is listed as probable (knee).
NaVorro Bowman leads the San Francisco defence with 34 tackles (combined). He has 2 sacks this season as does NT Glenn Dorsey and LB Ahmed Brooks. The 49ers will miss Aldon Smith who has 4.5 sacks in 3 games, he remains on injured reserve. The defensive line will be looking to pick of Matt Schaub in the same fashion that Seattle did in week 4.
This has hallmarks of a tight game. Houston will be looking to bounce back from their early Halloween horror show against Seattle whilst San Francisco will be looking to keep the momentum of last weeks win going into week 5. This is a must win game for both teams. If you have not got the stamina to stay up for the late game set your sky+ now.
Key men - It would be too easy to just pick both QB's for this one. It could be a battle of the running backs.
Houston - Arian Foster, he maybe the weapon of choice if the Texans passing game does not produce the numbers.
San Francisco - Frank Gore, the explosive veteran will be up for the match up with the Texans tough tackling defence.
